Since being established in 2008, it has been our aim and desire to provide a service second to none where nothing is too much trouble. We understand that whether you are looking to hire a marquee for the very first time or hiring again, it can be a daunting experience. With over 15 years experience in the industry we believe we have the experience, knowledge and equipment to make the process smoother.
Here are some common questions we receive from our clients. We hope you find the answers helpful. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
Do I really need a marquee?
The most important question is to ask yourself what would the marquee actually be used for. Marquees are ultimately a temporary structure that can accommodate and event of for storage that can protect you from the unpredictability of the British weather. By this we don’t just mean the rain but also act as shade from the sun.
Where can a marquee be erected?
Ultimately a marquee can be erected in any open space. It can be erected on grass or hard standing. We have also set up in venues to transform them into looking like the inside of a marquee.
Where size marquee do I require?
The size of the marquee will be determined by:
- The location and space available
- Nature of the event
- Number of guests and whether they will be seated, standing or a combination of both
- Any additional equipment, furniture or props inside the marquee e.g. DJ booth or food stations
- Length of time marquee is required for
- Budget
- We take into consideration all of the above and will offer advice accordingly. We can conduct an initial consultation virtually but always recommend a site visit.
How long can we hire the marquee for and when to you assemble and dismantle?
The standard hire period is 4/5 days without incurring any additional charges. However we do offer some flexibility on this (which can be discussed during our consultation). Additional charges generally come into play when the hire period goes over multiple weekends. The additional charge is 50% of the original invoice for subsequent weekends. We can however offer bigger discounts for long term hires.
In terms of when we set up and dismantle, unless it’s a surprise party we always prefer to set up 1 or 2 days prior to your event (giving contingency for any last minute changes etc) and dismantle 1 or 2 days after the event. Depending on the size of the marquee and we may decide to start the set-up in further in advance.
What comes with the marquee?
A marquee itself is constructed using an aluminium frame with white pvc covers.
Options for the covers
- Roof. The standard PVC roofs are white.
- Transparent roofs. These are very popular but we do not advise them for the summer months as they can create a “greenhouse” effect making the marquee unbearable. They can also create issues inside the marquee such as causing the wooden floor to expand in the heat and start to bow.
- PVC walls. The walls can be solid, Georgian windows or panoramic windows. The solid walls and Georgian windows have a lace in the middle that can be undone allowing them to be opened and closed with ease. The panoramic windows come with a zip on either side enabling them to be opened fully if need be.
- No walls. depending on weather, some clients choose not to have walls in at all.
What lighting options are available?
- Chandelier lighting (the number of which will be determined by the size of the marquee and will be on individual switches)
- Festoon lights. These create a more festival vibe
- Uplighters. These are placed on the floor and are used to colour wash the marquee acting as mood lighting
- Fairy lights. These can be in the ceiling or on a wall creating a backdrop.
- Mirror ball
How do you get power to the marquee?
Generally we just access to 3 pin sockets and we run extension leads into the marquee. In order to avoid overloading sockets, we recommend we use sockets from different parts of the building. If you require extra sockets for example for a DJ or catering equipment, we always recommend those suppliers running their own power as ours would have been tested prior to hand over.
In the event you do not have access to sockets (for example you are in a field), you may have to hire a generator.
My garden is an unusual shape or on a split level, can I still have a marquee and how can I maximise on space available?
This is where we really do specialise, we have so many different sizes and leg heights, there are very few gardens we cannot offer a marquee solution to. Again, this will be discussed during a site visit.
What are my flooring options?
- No floor, if you wish to maintain a garden party, outdoor feel you may choose not to have a floor at all
- Wooden floor and carpets. This is the most common option. The wooden floor is raised on batons and is interlocking. As it is raised it allows for any rain to run underneath as well as allowing your grass to breathe. Although the floor follows the gradient of the ground we try to minimise and unevenness as much as possible. The wooden floor provides a solid surface to walk, dance on and also prevents your furniture from wobbling. The floor is finished with a new carpet in the colour of your choice.
What interior options do you offer?
- Simple marquee. Basic pvc structure, with our without window walls
- Interior linings and swags. The linings are in a mid ivory colour and cover the ceiling and solid walls. The swags cover the joins from the top of the wall to the ceilings and can be in colours of neutral.
- Blackout ceilings and walls. The ceilings can be covered in a black starlight cloth.
- Transparent. You can choose to have completely transparent roofs to give the illusion of being outside but benefiting from being covered.
- Coloured overlays. You may wish to add a splash of colour into the ceiling.
- A combination of any or all of the above.
For more interior ideas, please view our gallery.
How is the marquee secured?
If on grass we stake the marquee into the ground.
If its on hard standing, artificial lawn or if there is a possibility of pipes underground, we can weigh the marquee down using sand ir water weights.
How do you heat the marquee?
We use indirect heaters. The heaters run on diesel and are designed to stay outside the marquee. The heat is fed into the marquees via a duct and are controlled via a thermostat within the marquee.
The cost of hiring a heater does not include any diesel. We can either supply you with the diesel (and charge accordingly) or you can supply your own. We will advise of how much we think you may need when booking the heater.
What do you offer other than the marquee?
We have a range of tables and chairs etc. that can be viewed on our equipment page.
Can I cook inside the marquee?
We have separate marquees that we use for cooking and catering purposes. If you do intend to use the marquee for cooking, it’s imperative to tell as in advance so we can supply the correct structure.
Whats the next step?
You can request a price and size guide by calling or emailing the office. However, we always recommend a free, no obligation site visit where we can access the are you require the marquee and your requirements in detail.
